Circles Quilt

I thought about titling this post I Did It! But that sounds a bit self congratulatory. I am pleased, though, that I was able to tackle such a large quilt on my own and with free motion quilting no less. You saw how it dwarfed my little machine. And here you can see the silly things we do to get a photo of such a big quilt. See my feet at the top of the ladder, oh and in the front yard?
It ended up about 68" x 83" after washing and drying it.

I bound the quilt in an American Jane rulers print.
I made an extra bit of matching bunting for fun. Here's the quilt on big brother's bed (still a crib for the guy who will get this quilt eventually).
Improvised log cabins were the perfect use for scraps. The red alphabet print on the back is from American Jane's Punctuation line. Here is a closeup of my swirly quilting. I almost quit after my first attempt because the free motion was wonky, and maneuvering the quilt under the needle on a quilt this size is exhausting. I'm glad I stuck it out. All the wobbles sort of disappear in a quilt this big and busy, and I definitely got better by the end. I'm really happy with the results, and this can be an example, in the future, of my "before" quilting! All that to say don't let big quilts intimidate you. Give it a go.
Although I enlarged the blocks, the original tutorial can be found here.

Handmade Christmas Wraps Up

I think I'm done with my handmade Christmas gift to do list! I completed this snowman kit for my little boys. Just in time too, since we had our first taste of snow last night. I got the idea from Make It Do.
And finally, a hostess gift for a party I'm attending tomorrow night. I had another item in mind originally, but once again Krista's cute wall hanging was on my brain. It is 12 x 15 just like hers.

Not on the List

Creative craft bloggers are killing me. Seriously, too much cuteness. I have several items still to make on my handmade Christmas list, but instead of knocking them out, I'm making things like this, thanks to this post on Krista's blog.Gah! And I just saw this, which I now need to make for each of my boys.

Double Take

I know you're thinking I already posted about this quilt, right? Actually this is a second, slightly smaller version of the Scrappy Squares Baby Quilt.

You can see I varied slightly from the first quilt by using different fabrics for the border, binding and back.

I got to see my original vision of a red striped border come to life. Pretty fun! Love a stripe, when used in a skinny border like this.
Even after making a second quilt, I still had some squares remaining, so I made this matching quilted pillow. I also could not resist making a small string of bunting.
Update: The bunting is still available in my shop.

Feeling like Fall

It must really feel like fall - even my sewing projects are autumnal. The coffee press cozy born of the fabrics in my last post.
And some bunting for fall decorating. I'm not much of a seasonal decorator, but I admire those who dress their homes accordingly. This string is for a special lady who really does it up right.
