Another Best Bib

I guess I could also call this post Deep Blue Baby Bib since I made the bib with the pieces I trimmed from this quilt.  This bib pattern by JCasa is perfect not only for for scraps, as I found out earlier, but also for trimmed strips and even left over quilt blocks, anything pieced to 10 x 10 inches.
I tried out another new free motion design on this.  What would you call it?  It looks like an echoed teardrop shape to me, I guess.  Very fun to do.

Scrappy Bibs

I've been pondering how to use the lovely stacks of squares I created from my scraps.  A pillow?  A granny square quilt (just posted today and now on my must make list!)?  Then I remembered a pattern I bought a bit ago that I've been wanting to try.  The Best Bib by JCasa handmade is perfect for these squares because it calls for a 10 x 10 piece of fabric.  Twenty-five squares later you are ready to cut out your bib, or bibs in my case.  I couldn't stop with one!
This is the perfect scrap project.  I used the squares for the top, scrap batting in the middle, larger scraps for the backs and scraps of bindings for the tie. Such a good feeling.
This is also the perfect project to practice your free motion quilting.  It's small and you're done in no time.  Go ahead and try out some new designs.  I quilted each bib differently.  I love the leaves and vines.  My hearts need more work.
These make me pretty happy, and they need to be together, don't you think?  The set is now in my shop.

Made to Order

My best customer (aka mother-in-law) recently asked me to make a onesie and fabric basket to match this bootie and bib set. Since I had leftover fabric, I made this little set to order. She's my best customer, after all! :)

I had fun making up my own pattern for the basket. It uses the same basic construction as a basket I've made before, but this one is quilted, so it's studier. I also used strips of fabric pieced together, instead of squares, and I made it larger. This one will be perfect for holding baby toys, diapers, or whatever the new mom needs it for.

Scrappy Squares Baby Quilt

Ahh, it's done. What a good feeling.
You can see I went in another direction with the quilting after the tension distaster. I'm happy I did. I like the look of the combine straight stitching with the decorative stitch. Im not giving up on free motion though. Thanks for all your suggestions! I 'll be doing some experiments on test squares this week.

Back to Booties

I found this adorable Japanese fabric with tiny little trains on it. I thought I had bibs and booties out of my system, but doesn't this print just beg to be made into cuteness for little baby boys?
I don't have any infants arriving in my life, but maybe you do. In that case, these are now in my shop. If you want to make your own, the booties are made from a pattern by weepereas on etsy, and they are reversible! The alphabet print I used to back the bib is from American Jane's new line, Punctuation.

Another Baby Gift Set

I've got a baby shower to attend on Saturday. The challenge - a gender neutral gift since the parents are not finding out the sex of the baby. I found this cute sheep Kokka Trefle fabric, and it pairs nicely with this herringbone print from Joel Dewberry's Modern Meadow. This print goes with so many things!

For My Nephew

Here are the items, sewn with love, heading over the ocean to my sweet nephew. I can't wait to see him!The sweet little booties are made with a great pattern by Beth of weepeareas. She is selling a DIY kit in her etsy shop, so I got not only the pattern but precut booty pieces in this adorable Japanese fabric! She even included a bonus set of pieces to make a pratice pair of booties. The best part is that these booties have no exposed seams and are reversible! Cool, huh.And keeping with my recent trend of making two of everything, you can find a nearly identical doggy baby boy gift set in my shop, if you need an extra special gift!

Repurposed Men's Dress Shirt = Baby Bib

My new baby boy is teething and drools like crazy! He has to wear a bib constantly. That is kind of a bummer when I want him to look cute and not like he's waiting for lunch. Here's my solution.

I fused and machine appliqued a tie cut out from a cotton print. The bib is backed in flannel and closes with velcro. This project is also a great way to repurpose dress shirts that have stains or frayed cuffs.
Love it? I made a second one - you can find it in my etsy shop.

Baby Shower Gift

This was my first time trying felt applique, and boy, it couldn't be easier - no edges to turn under, just top stitch it on. It's a quick way to personalize a baby shower gift like these bibs and burb cloth. I used my new walking foot to machine quilt the burb cloth.
These turned out so cute, I made a couple for my own baby! The bibs are made from the same pattern as my first post on bibs, but these are done in the infant size.

Bibs, bibs, and more bibs

Check out Amy Karol's bend-the-rules Sewing for an easy, cute pattern for baby bibs. I got on a bit of a kick and made a bunch last week. They are a great way to use fat quarters. They'd be fabulous baby shower gifts too - so vibrant and fun.

I fiddled with the pattern later though, and enlarged it to fit toddlers. I found baby bibs pretty useless once my little guy was about a year old - just when he was the messiest eater. You need more coverage, you know? I couldn't find any larger bibs in stores.

I've got a set of three toddler bibs in cute, coordinating fabric in my etsy shop if you need a great gift for the toddler, really for the toddler's mom, in your life.
