Pieced Belt

Another project inspired by Sew Mama Sew's fat quarter month. I made up my own method for this cute pieced belt. I fused a layer of flannel and interfacing in the center to give the belt the neccessary heft. It ended up a little long, but I've already worn it once.

I made it with Amy Butler fabric scraps from the previous project. Fun!!

Quick Gifts

It's fat quarter month over at Sew Mama Sew. There are some great project ideas for using these small pieces of fabric. I loved the idea of these cute tissue holders. With a little trial and error, I think I figured out how to make them. The fusing of the fabric layers really makes for a nice stiff holder. I also made matching keychain wristlets from this tutorial. I made a whole bunch to give a gifts for all those ladies who will be helping me in the near future with the new baby coming home.


I love the Amy Butler fabrics! My favorite sister-in-law gave me a set of fat quarters for my birthday. Thanks! It was so fun to use them on this neat project.

Finished Baby Quilt

My little guy's quilt is done! Thanks for the comment that identified this pattern as Cobblestones. It is my first time machine quilting, and I just went for stitching in the ditch. I like how quickly it went! Next time I hope to try some free motion quilting.

New Baby Quilt

With a new baby arriving any week now (or rather me going to bring him home), I've been anxious about getting as much of his baby quilt done as I can. It is my own design, but a pretty basic square in a square pattern. I continued the square theme by making the quilt itself square too. This is the finished top.

Now to try out my new walking foot to machine quilt it. Any ideas on what quilting pattern would compliment it?

Baby Shower Gift

This was my first time trying felt applique, and boy, it couldn't be easier - no edges to turn under, just top stitch it on. It's a quick way to personalize a baby shower gift like these bibs and burb cloth. I used my new walking foot to machine quilt the burb cloth.
These turned out so cute, I made a couple for my own baby! The bibs are made from the same pattern as my first post on bibs, but these are done in the infant size.

Easy Dog Coat

There is a free dog coat pattern over at Circle of Crafters. It works best if you have a small dog, as the pattern is one you print out. I'm guessing you could resize it for larger dogs on a photocopier using big paper.





I used a layer of plaid flannel and a lining of brown flannel. The result is warm, but not bulky. I also added top stiching that wasn't part of the instructions, but it made the coat look more finished. My dog isn't a fan of the coat, but she hates any kind of clothing. I like the velcro closure, so it can be easily taken off (by you, but not by the dog!).

Handmade Ornaments

These fabric bird ornaments are quick, handmade gifts for some of the special people on my list. I was inspired to make them by this blog. You can find a free pattern here at Spool Sewing and make some of your own. You can try out a variety of fabric combinations like I did.
