Progress

I've had lots of quality time with my rotary cutter this week. This has what has become of those circle blocks I posted about.
They are now 320 quarter circle blocks.
I trimmed away the fabric behind each quarter circle, as suggested in the tutorial. Then I trimmed those scraps into 2 1/2 inch squares. 320 of them. I'm thrilled at the prospect of having the pieces for another quilt all ready to go and for "free" too.

    I think it is great that you cut away the fabric from under the circle to save. It's a lot of work but, like you said, you have a new "free" project ready to go now!

    I LOVE what you are creating! The colours are fun and it has a wonderfully whimsical look.
    I'd love to know what happens to the raw edges when it's washed. Have you seen one washed up? Just curious.

    Oh my goodness!! It's going to look amazing! What a good idea to cut away the fabric from under the circles... nice to have some 'spare' fabric!

    OMG!!!!!! That is so crazy. I have started a quilt that has like 5 pieces to it and I am hating it!!!! I have official become a garment maker. :) Can't wait to see the finished results!

    wow, that looks like some awesome meticulous cutting. ive been ranting about investing in a rotary cutter but when i get to the store theres so many varieties i end up wandering off to the fabric aisle. cant wait to see what this quilt will look like. i like the idea of the raw edges. im starting my tickertape quilt now...thanks again for the wonderful scraps!

    Sheena, I think the picture of the quilt in the tutorial has been washed. Allison, from Cluck Cluck Sew, says that she didn't have to trim any threads after washing because the circles don't fray (they are bias edges).

    thats an awesome idea. saves fabric, lightens the finished quilt, easier on the machine for quilting thru less fabric, extra fabric for use on another great project! beautiful quilt btw
